    Wine & Wisdom: Eno Terra's Educational Series

    Join us for Eno Terra’s inaugural educational series where touted “Wine Professor” Tony Verdoni, along with our Sommelier Nicolas Arriagada, will guide students through Italy’s major wine regions broken up into 6 units with guided tastings in a classroom setting. 

     

    The series consists of six sessions on the following Tuesday's from 6:30 - 8:00pm:

    January 24 - Enotria Tellus: Ancient Greek & Modern Wine Making in Southern Italy

    Enotria Tellus: Ancient Greek & Modern Wine Making in Southern Italy

    6:30 - 8:00pm

    A historical trek through the past as we visit Enotria Tellus, the Land of Wine, from the ancient Greek era to the modern era. We sample the wines of Basilicata, Calabria, Puglia and Campania. Our focus will be on the noble grape of the south, aglianico, as well as the several volcanic and coastal wines from the Mediterranean and Adriatic coasts.

    Italy's Heartland: Tuscany & Sangiovese

    Wines from Italy's heartland, Umbria and Tuscany. Sangiovese, anyone?? Sangiovese is prolific and goes by hundreds of names. Today we will focus on its hold on Tuscany in Chianti, Vino Nobile, and Brunello.  We will also learn about the modern idea of the “Super Tuscan” and how it has changed the idea of Tuscan wine.

    The Italian Coast: Lazio, Marche, Abruzzo, Molise & the Adriatic

    6:30 - 8:00pm

    Central Italy from coast to coast: wines from Lazio on the Tyrrhenian Sea, and those from Marche, Abruzzo and Molise on the Adriatic. Central Italy here is divided by the Apennines, which have grown pockets of unique and rich wines. Focus will be on coastal wines like verdicchio and pigato as well as some familiar red varietals that show unique terroir.

    Fog & the Foothills: Piedmont & the Story of Nebbiolo

    6:30 - 8:00pm

    Piedmont and its neighbors, Lombardy, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna and Valle d'Aosta, and in the foothills and outcroppings of the Alps, Italy has wine sites that are unreplicated anywhere in the world. Microclimates, elevations and fog play integral variables here. We will of course focus on the king of the north, Nebbiolo! (as well as a few supporting cast members like dolcetto and barbera)

    Veni Vidi Vino: The Story of Three Venices

    6:30 - 8:00pm

    Our final session, we finish up the three Venices; namely, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli- Venezia Giulia. This northeast most region is a key trading route from Central Italy to the old Austro-Hungarian countries to the west. We will focus on wines from Valpolicella, natives whites, and explore the German influence in Suditrol.

    We have asked some of our winemaker and industry friends to make an exclusive group visit to Eno Terra to showcase some of the most sought out regions of France. This is a wonderful opportunity to taste, mingle, and meet some growers and producers. We taste every wine before it winds up on our list; why shouldn't you taste before you buy? Light hors d'oeuvres will be served.
